This is me trying to draw my own version of my favourite Delacroix painting, The Combat of the Giaour and Hassan (the subject is from a Byron poem). Delacroix is so hots, there wasn't going to be any beating his original, so I decided to think of it sort of as a cover for something, comic or magazine or whatever.
I like the idea of that, but I was reading the poem again, and aside from all the obvious racist stuff, it's probably way too long-winded and flowery for comics. Maybe some re-working of the story would be cool.
Very nice. I think I know the painting it's from, but not the poem, though I like Byron too. The Orientalist painters are among my favourite guilty pleasures.
The style of this piece reminds me of Charles Vess and Michael W. Kaluta. Lovely work.
